Ziad Alhussairi has substantial experience in litigating on behalf of international oil exploration and production companies, oilfield services companies, foreign investors and aviation companies.

Ziad's practice focuses on representing foreign companies before Libyan courts in civil, commercial, intellectual property, tax and labour disputes, as well as advising on various labour and social security law issues and the incorporation and registration of Libyan companies, branches of foreign companies and representative offices.

His litigation and advisory experience includes:

  • Represented Sirte Oil Company in litigation against an international construction and engineering company, successfully obtaining a judgment of US$120million in damages.

  • Represented an airline operator in successfully nullifying the Use of Airports Fees Schedule (issued by the General People’s Committee) in an action brought before the Administrative Courts.

  • Represented major international companies operating in Libya in litigation before Libyan courts in various civil, commercial and labour disputes.

  • Represented major international oil companies operating in Libya in tax appeals relating to the levying of stamp duty on Exploration and Production Sharing Agreements (EPSA's) and other agreements.

  • Represented international companies in the taking of injunctive relief over assets located in Libya

  • Represented international companies in several actions for trademark infringement in Libya.

  • Advised international hotel operator on the operation and management of new hotel development in Tripoli.

  • Represented and advised international companies seeking to establish a business presence in Libya on the incorporation and registration of Libyan companies, branches of foreign companies and representative offices.

  • Conducted due diligence for a major international cement manufacturer in relation to the acquisition of an equity interest in a Libyan state-owned cement concern.

  • Advised on the practices and procedures for maintaining a registered business presence in Libya, such as the replacement of managers, changing registered names and nationalities, amending permitted activities and extending the term of registration.

  • Drafted and advised on Work Order Regulations, Penalty Regulations and Health and Safety Regulations to be implemented by foreign companies operating in Libya and approved by the Libyan Labour Office.

  • Represented and advised Air One Nine on the court proceedings and seizure of an aircraft located in Libya in satisfaction of a debt claim
